Reaching the goal together

The HGK Logistics and Intermodal business division combines the operative activities of HGK Logistics and Intermodal GmbH and other affiliate companies. The two business units "Intermodal" and "Logistics" focus on a highly efficient network for international container handling as well as nationwide warehousing and logistics hubs.

Our goal: With our customers' requirements in mind, we are combining the services of the various locations and business areas even more closely and strengthening their expertise. This is what the management team of HGK Logistics and Intermodal stands for.

Business Unit Logistics

Logistics and warehousing with specific industry expertise

Anyone who hopes to make use of market opportunities also needs a resilient and flexible logistics partner. Our Logistics business unit combines the entire range of modern logistics services to generate cost-effective solutions for Europe-wide transport by rail, ship and truck.

Our particular expertise: in addition to logistics services for all types of palletised goods, we offer specific logistics services for particular goods and industries, for example for paper logistics and for a wide variety of bulk goods and ores.

For our customers we develop logistics concepts that range from handling through picking, packing and packaging to the operation of specially equipped warehouses. These also include sensitive, temperature-controlled goods and hazardous substances. Even for complex heavy goods or project logistics projects or for efficient support with in-house logistics, customers find the right contact within our Business Unit Logistics.

Business Unit Intermodal

An intermodal terminal network offering best connections

As a specialist for intermodal container logistics, our intermodal terminals offer the best connections between the main northern and western ports and the European hinterland.

Our well-connected trimodal terminal locations at Duisburg, Krefeld, Düsseldorf and Cologne offer a systematically organised network from on single source: our own barges linking the western ports and Cologne on a daily basis as well as Duisburg, Krefeld and Düsseldorf, permanent rail connections and system transport, including to the German northern ports, and a flexible truck fleet all enable seamless container logistics. Our intermodal services are complemented by the port of Stürzelberg, which - conveniently positioned between Neuss and Dormagen - is geared more towards the local industrial sites in this area.

Each of our terminals combines the advantages of barge, rail and road transport to create environmentally benign solutions that have a maximum economic efficiency and flexibility. For this reason, all our sites are designed as railports and for handling all types of load unit, also including e.g. swap bodies and trailers. State-of-the-art facilities and equipment as well as effective control systems ensure the parallel handling of different modes of transport at the highest level.

Key performance indicators of our terminal network

  • Container Handling: 1.5 million TEU
  • Intermodal transport: 95 one-way departures per week
  • Barges: 9 barges with a capacity of up to 6500 TEU per week
  • Trucking: 275 trucks/320 chassis linked to our terminals
  • Container terminal areas: 511,000 sqm
  • Container storage capacity: 30,000 TEU

Standards for greater sustainability, reliability and safety

In our globalised world, standards regarding safety, environmental protection and quality are increasingly important. The companies of the HGK Group set themselves these growing challenges early on and have impemented relevant management systems. We actively promote the qualification and certification of important sector and industry standards.

In addition to internal management guidelines such as risk management and internal control standards, the HGK Logistics and Intermodal companies fulfil the standards for port security (ISPS), food safety (HACCP), feed safety (GMP+) and sector-specific certifications such as SQAS for chemical and waste management facilities.

The companies involved with customs affairs have held the status of ‘authorised economic operator’ (AEO) since September 2010 and thus qualify as secure members of the international supply chain. Additionally, our customers profit from the simplified customs procedures for import and export transactions.
