HGK AG modernises Gennerstraße level crossing in Hürth-Fischenich
Cologne / Hürth - Häfen und Güterverkehr Köln AG (HGK) is modernising the Gennerstraße / Bonnstraße level crossing in Hürth-Fischenich from January 2026. The modernisation of the facility on the route of light rail line 18 is planned from 12 January 2026 to 11 February 2026.
The level crossing system on Gennerstraße dates back to 1986 and the technology installed is now being replaced with modern components. The barrier drives are being completely replaced and the light signals are being replaced with energy-saving LED signals. In addition, new tactile fields will be installed on the pavement to improve accessibility for visually impaired people. A level crossing acoustic system will also be installed.
During the construction work, the railway crossing will be completely closed to private traffic and pedestrians. A diversion will be set up and access for local residents will be guaranteed.
HGK AG is endeavouring to keep restrictions to a minimum. Local travellers are asked to avoid the construction site and take alternative routes.
