HGK Logistics and Intermodal GmbH bundles terminal activities on the Rhine

Cologne / Düsseldorf. The HGK Group operates four trimodal container terminals in the Rhine-Ruhr region via HGK Logistics and Intermodal GmbH (HGK LI). Until now, the locations have operated under their own names. In future, the terminals will operate jointly under the "HGK Intermodal GmbH" brand. This will enable the company to position its container logistics activities on the market and with customers in a standardised manner.

"The container is part of our DNA. In order to effectively meet current and future challenges, we are now joining forces. We will become much more visible as 'HGK Intermodal GmbH' under the umbrella of the HGK Group," says Markus Krämer, CEO of HGK Logistics and Intermodal GmbH, explaining the reasons behind the move. He continues: "With a holistic brand identity, we can communicate our identity more clearly, consolidate our market position in the long term and demonstrate our cooperation even more clearly to the outside world." The bundling of container activities was preceded by the acquisition of DB Cargo's shares in the terminals in Cologne and Düsseldorf by HGK Logistics and Intermodal GmbH in May 2025. This made HGK LI the sole owner.

"We pursue a customer- and service-orientated approach. We are working together to modernise our IT system landscape and optimise our organisational structures - both key prerequisites for our further growth," says Rainer Görtler, Managing Director of HGK Intermodal GmbH. Nothing will change for employees and customers as a result of the change of name; the respective contact persons will remain the same.

The transformation will take effect in 2026, when the former "CTS Container Terminal GmbH" in Cologne will operate under the name "HGK Intermodal Köln GmbH". "DCH Düsseldorf Container-Hafen GmbH" will become "HGK Intermodal Düsseldorf GmbH". "It is very important for us that the individual qualities of the individual locations are retained. However, thanks to a joint presence, we will be stronger and thus make an important contribution to the security of supply on the Rhine and Ruhr," says Markus Krämer. For this reason, the further development of the organisation is being driven forward across the board in an internal project. The aim is to avoid redundancies and create synergy effects in an age of skills shortages.
