Cologne. Steffen Bauer (45) will take over as CEO of Häfen und Güterverkehr Köln AG (HGK) on 1 October 2025. The graduate in business administration (FH) was unanimously appointed by the Supervisory Board on 1 July 2025. He succeeds Uwe Wedig, who is retiring from the company after many years of successful service.
Steffen Bauer is focussing on the targeted further development of HGK's integrated logistics solutions. "We are a strong group of companies with an end-to-end offering along the transport chain from the seaports to our terminals on the Rhine - that makes us unique. In addition, we secure the supply of raw materials to industrial centres with our sustainable range of services by ship and rail. I am building on this: We are developing our portfolio in a targeted manner and interlinking our processes even more closely. Additional value-added services, driven by data and supported by artificial intelligence, complete our profile as an integrated, agile and market-orientated logistics group," explains Steffen Bauer: "In short, we are continuing to bring 'integrated' from our company slogan to life."
The new CEO of the HGK Group sees the current changes in the economy and industry as a mandate to shape the future: "The transformation of the markets, new requirements for sustainable supply chains and technological progress are opening up enormous potential for us. With digital, innovative transport concepts and a clear focus on climate protection, we want to utilise this potential - and further establish the HGK companies as reliable partners for the industry of tomorrow."
In addition to the supra-regional focus, HGK AG's responsibility for Cologne and the entire Rhineland region is a central mission for Steffen Bauer: "With our comprehensive logistics offering, we ensure the supply and mobility of local people - and thus make an important contribution to public services. At the same time, we are developing a sustainable industrial and logistics location in the north of Cologne with FUSION COLOGNE, which not only strengthens the competitiveness of existing industries, but also enables new companies to locate in Cologne and the Rhineland."
