A water taxi replaces rail transport from Nievenheim to Neuss in the short term

Cologne. The strength of the HGK Group's integrated logistics services is particularly evident when it comes to special challenges: Because the network operator was unable to offer an alternative option at short notice due to a closure of the railway line between Neuss and Nievenheim, HGK Logistics and Intermodal GmbH organised a transport solution involving the waterway. Also involved: HGK Shipping and RheinCargo.

Normally, the HGK subsidiary RheinCargo transports 700 tonnes of aluminium rolling slabs by rail from the UCT terminal in Neuss to the Novelis "Alunorf" plant on behalf of Novelis every day. However, as the route is currently not passable due to construction work, an alternative solution had to be found.

An HGK Shipping ship is therefore operating a shuttle service between the HGK-LI sites in Neuss and Dormagen during the closure. From Dormagen, the material is then loaded back onto Rheincargo trains and delivered to "Alunorf".
