"SchachZUG" launched! New HGK Intermodal train connection between Duisburg and Rotterdam

Duisburg / Rotterdam. For customers, it's not just a clever train in the literal sense: three times a week, the "SchachZUG", as HGK Intermodal GmbH (HGK I) has christened its new train product, connects the HGK Duisburg Gateway West terminal with five terminals in the seaport of Rotterdam. The declared aim is to shift more container transport from road to rail.

The "SchachZUG" in Duisburg

The problem is well known: Transporting containers from the Rhineland by road to the seaports is time-consuming and causes climate-damaging CO2 emissions. HGK Intermodal GmbH has therefore launched the "SchachZUG" to offer an environmentally friendly alternative by rail. The advantages for customers are obvious:

  • Reliable and punctual transport by rail
  • No traffic jams on overcrowded motorways
  • Sustainable and environmentally friendly logistics
  • Reduction of toll costs
  • Possibility of interim storage at the HGK terminal in the hinterland of Rotterdam
  • Smooth supply chain from a single source

"With our SchachZUG, we are fulfilling our customers' wishes. Instead of causing unnecessary CO2 emissions on the road, the connection contributes to the positive carbon footprint of our customers," explain Kerstin Lederer (Head of Sales) and Rainer Görtler, Managing Director of HGK Intermodal GmbH. They continue: "The service also saves time and money. Our initial experience confirms our belief that 'SchachZUG' will establish itself on the market."
