Duisburg/Rotterdam. On 1 January 2025, Jos Davidse (58) will become Chairman of the Management Board of HGK Shipping Rotterdam BV. Working alongside the other managing directors, Andreas Lemme and Egbert Schelhaas, he will in future be responsible for the strategic ongoing development of the subsidiary of HGK Shipping, the European market leader in inland waterway shipping; his particular responsibility will be on the areas of push barging, container and dry shipping as well as providing agency and transshipment services at Europe’s largest seaport. The goal is to boost the potential of this significant logistics hub in a dynamic and future-oriented market environment.
"Rotterdam is one of the most important transshipment centres in the world. Using our experienced team and the support of the entire HGK group of companies, my goal is to make full use of the potential of inland waterway shipping services and the group’s logistics activities."
This newly created position underlines the growth potential that HGK Shipping has in Rotterdam. Emphasis will not only be placed on developing traditional flows of goods, but also on new business fields that are emerging as a result of the energy transition.
Continuing to develop the strategically important business site in Rotterdam
Jos Davidse has had more than three decades of experience in the shipping sector and has established his career in leading positions at several renowned shipping companies. As Senior General Manager at thyssenkrupp Veerhaven, he was most recently responsible for all operational activities such as push barging activities and maritime shipping agencies. This extensive sector expertise, combined with a deep understanding of the operating processes and the commercial requirements, makes him the ideal person to fill this position to ensure the ongoing development of the strategically significant business site in Rotterdam.
As part of the so-called ARAG range, which comprises the ports in Antwerp, Amsterdam and Ghent as well as Rotterdam, this business site plays a key role for European internal and foreign trade. “By appointing Jos Davidse, we’re making a clear statement about our ambitions in Rotterdam. Sustainable and innovative transport solutions, which are becoming necessary as a result of the energy transition and the new groups of goods associated with it, will be a particular focal point for the future development of business. Push barging will also play a crucial role in this process,” says Steffen Bauer, the CEO of HGK Shipping.
