Cologne. Back for the future: "neska Schiffahrts- und Speditionskontor GmbH" was founded in Cologne almost 100 years ago. The occasion was the construction of the Rhine harbour in Cologne-Niehl, which was inaugurated in 1925. Following the interim relocation of neska to Duisburg, the subsidiary of the HGK Group is now returning to its origins with a new name. As HGK Logistics and Intermodal GmbH, the company will be based at the HGK headquarters from 1 January 2024, underlining its position as an integrated logistics unit within the HGK Group.
"We transport a wide variety of goods for our customers by road, rail and water, and we operate warehouses, container terminals and depots. We now have a standardised brand identity for all of this. At the same time, we have bundled the activities of the various branches and companies in Germany and the Netherlands into the three business units Logistics, Intermodal and Transportation," explains Markus Krämer, CEO of HGK Logistics and Intermodal GmbH.
The name and headquarters of the HGK subsidiary will be reorganised from the beginning of the year. Previously, neska's branches and locations operated as largely independent units on the market; now there will be an integrated presence. Markus Krämer: "Logistics in itself is already complex. Simpler and clearer corporate structures help our customers and us to focus 100 per cent on the business. With the stronger networking of the three business units, we can now respond even better to the needs of our customers and offer customised, integrated logistics solutions." The change of name from neska to HGK Logistics and Intermodal is another important step in the company's development. The respective contact persons at the locations and branches will not change.
"We have a strong foundation that we will now develop further. Networking and digitalisation will be just two of many topics."
However, not all subsidiaries and holdings will operate as HGK Logistics and Intermodal in future, but will remain under the brand umbrella for the time being. These include Duisburg Bulk Terminal GmbH, HGK Intermodal GmbH, OUDKERK B.V., Pohl & Co. GmbH and uct Umschlag Container Terminal GmbH. The previous shipping company neska Container Line will be renamed HGK Logistics and Intermodal Nederland B.V. in the course of the first quarter of 2024.
"I am very pleased about the developments at HGK Logistics and Intermodal GmbH. The fact that the company is now moving its headquarters back to Cologne is not just a symbolic sign for me," says Uwe Wedig, CEO of Häfen und Güterverkehr Köln AG. The HGK CEO continues: "Rather, it is another important step in the development of HGK into an integrated logistics group."
