Rhine ferry ‘Fritz Middelanis’ forced to temporarily suspend operations due to hydraulic pump problems

Due to recent problems with a hydraulic pump, the Rhine ferry ‘Fritz Middelanis’ has been forced to suspend operations for the time being. When it will be possible to put the vessel back into service in the coming week is not yet known.

A few days ago, a malfunction developed on the exhaust controller of the ferry’s engines. To resume at least limited services, the injection nozzles were replaced. During a subsequent test run, however, a failure occurred in a hydraulic pump. Because of this new setback, the service must for now be completely suspended.

Replacement parts must once again be obtained to bring the ‘Fritz Middelanis’ back into service. We hope that these will arrive early next week, so that once they are fitted and test runs have been completed, the regular ferry service between Köln-Langel and Leverkusen-Hitdorf can be resumed. This can only take place on the condition that the ferry is fully functional. The safety of our passengers, the crew and the vehicles onboard has absolute priority.

Ferry passengers can find out from a traffic light symbol on the www.hgk.de website whether the ferry is currently operating.
