Cologne. Excavators are busy on the site of FUSION COLOGNE in the north of Cologne. Following the announcement of Panattoni becoming the first investor on the FUSION COLOGNE site a few weeks ago, the project is now entering the next phase. Since early July the site has been busy with excavators, wheel loaders and bulldozers, raising the land to the current road level, ready for the first construction phase. In some areas the ground level has had to be backfilled by up to three metres. The first plot should be handed over to the investor in early December 2023.
To kick off the groundwork, project representatives symbolically lent a hand themselves. In the photo from left to right: Dr Jens Albert Oppel (Board Member, Häfen und Güterverkehr Köln AG); Uwe Wedig (Chairman of the Board, Häfen und Güterverkehr Köln AG); Jörk Freimuth (Managing Director, Freimuth Abbruch und Recycling GmbH); Peter Trapp (Managing Director, Fusion Cologne GmbH); Markus Krämer (CEO HGK Logistics and Intermodal).
‘We are delighted to have moved from the planning phase to realisation. In the coming months, some 360,000 cubic metres of material will be brought onto the site and compacted. By late April 2024 all plots will be completed and ready for construction by the investors.
On this future-oriented, 550,000-square metre area of FUSION COLOGNE, interdisciplinary networking will be promoted and bundled: manufacturing companies, warehousing and logistics businesses, office and research and development facilities are expected to profit from the flexibly divisible plots, not only because of the sustainable technological equipping of the site but also because of the expertise of the other companies present there. A high-performance, bimodal cargo handling terminal will facilitate sustainable transport logistics for the companies.
