HGK AG renews railway crossing at Pohlhausenstraße in Bornheim

Bornheim. From 11 November 2024, Häfen und Güterverkehr Köln AG (HGK) will be renewing a level crossing safety system on the route of light rail line 18 in Bornheim. The system on Pohlhausenstraße will be extensively renovated and technically optimised. The aim is also to significantly improve safety for all road users.

The system in question was installed in 1993. The technology installed is now outdated and has been discontinued by the manufacturer. Previous elements must therefore be dismantled and replaced with modern components. The barrier drives will be completely renewed and supplemented with separate pedestrian barriers, while the light signals will be replaced by LED signals. To meet higher safety requirements, the road markings and railings will be coloured. An acoustic warning sign system will also be installed.

The implementation of the planned construction measures is estimated to take a total of four weeks from 11 November 2024 to 6 December 2024. During this period, there will be changes for all road users. The railway crossing will be completely closed to private traffic and secured by posts. Pedestrian traffic will be allowed on one side. HGK AG is endeavouring to keep the restrictions to a minimum. Those familiar with the area are asked to use other roads. A diversion will be signposted.
