Brühl. In coordination with the city of Brühl and the Cologne district government, Häfen und Güterverkehr Köln AG (HGK) is renewing a level crossing on the route of light rail line 18 in Brühl from 8 July 2024. The level crossing technology on Kaiserstraße will be extensively renewed and technically optimised. One reason for this is that spare parts are no longer available for some of the existing technology.
The plant in question was built in 1986. The technology used at the time is now outdated and has been discontinued by the manufacturer. Previous elements must therefore be dismantled and replaced with modern components. The barrier drives will be completely renewed and supplemented by separate pedestrian barriers. The light signals will be replaced by LED signalling devices. In order to meet the increased safety requirements, road markings and railings will also be coloured. In addition, tactile ground indicators for the visually impaired will be installed in front of the pedestrian barriers
The implementation of the planned construction measures is scheduled for the period from 8 July 2024 to 23 August 2024. During this time, there will be restrictions for all road users. The level crossing will be completely closed to private motorised traffic from 15 July 2024. Security guards will supervise the facility. Pedestrians and cyclists pushing their vehicles will be able to pass through the area.
Bus services will be regulated on one side in accordance with the construction work. The diversion recommendations for private motorised traffic are currently being drawn up. Those familiar with the area are asked to use other roads. HGK AG is endeavouring to keep the restrictions as low as possible.
