HGK Group is expanding its logistics facility in the Port of Hamburg

Hamburg is Germany’s most important gateway to global trade. For industrial, commercial and logistics companies, efficient links to international trade flows are a key competitive factor. The new site improves connections for import and export traffic and provides customers with efficient access to global sourcing and sales markets. By directly linking waterways, rail and road, the site also supports sustainable and efficient transport operations.

“Hamburg is and will remain one of the most important hubs for the HGK Group. With the new site, we are laying the foundations to further develop our business in the port, provide additional capacity for growth and expand our range of services for existing and new customers,” explains Markus Krämer, CEO of HGK Logistics and Intermodal GmbH.

The logistics property, scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2028, will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure for warehousing, transhipment and distribution processes. The warehouse space utilised by HGK Logistics and Intermodal covers around 27,000 square metres. In addition, there are outdoor areas, a railway siding and a direct connection to shipping. With a warehouse height of twelve metres and high floor load capacities, the site offers ideal conditions for demanding port and industrial logistics.

Paper logistics as a core segment of HGK LI

A key focus of the new site is on paper logistics, a core segment of HGK Logistics and Intermodal. The activities in the Port of Hamburg, currently grouped under the Pohl & Co. brand, will be consolidated there in future. At the same time, additional capacity is being created to attract new customers and tap into further industrial and manufacturing sectors. The logistics centre is therefore not only an important step towards modernising existing structures, but also a platform for further growth.

“With the new site, we are consistently expanding our paper logistics operations across four locations in Germany, combining a regional presence with international supply chain expertise. The modern infrastructure and trimodal connections create the conditions for efficiently managing international flows of goods via the Port of Hamburg, safeguarding our high quality standards in the long term and developing new logistics solutions for additional customers, sectors and flows of goods,” explains Hendryk Mackowiak, Site Manager in Hamburg.

Customers benefit from a flexible operating model: in addition to modern logistics facilities, HGK Logistics and Intermodal GmbH can, on request, take over the entire logistics operation – from warehousing and container handling through trimodal transhipment services to national and international transport. The site is thus developing into an integrated logistics platform for complex supply chains.

Sustainability plays a central role

Sustainability aspects also play an important role in the development of the logistics centre. Plans include, amongst other things, photovoltaic systems, fossil-free technical installations, heat pumps, energy-efficient LED lighting and smart metering systems. Furthermore, a modern charging and mobility infrastructure is planned. The project is being developed in accordance with the criteria of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB); the aim is to achieve Gold Standard certification.

The project is being developed in collaboration with HIH Invest Real Estate, Urban Partners and Four Parx. With its involvement in the Seehafenstraße project, HGK Logistics and Intermodal GmbH is underlining its strategy of intelligently combining modern logistics properties with operational logistics services and offering customers along international supply chains comprehensive, one-stop solutions.
