Cologne. On 1 July 2026, Patrick Zilles (51) will take over responsibility for the Strategic Product Management Intermodal division at HGK Logistics and Intermodal GmbH (HGK LI). The HGK Group company is thus systematically expanding its expertise in intermodal transport and is gaining an experienced industry expert to drive the strategic development of its container and network business.
This appointment forms part of the HGK Group’s transformation programme. At HGK LI, this involves linking the four container terminals on the Rhine in Düsseldorf, Krefeld, Cologne and Duisburg more closely and developing them into an integrated service network. Structures, processes and services are to be harmonised across all sites, digitised and consistently aligned with the requirements of modern supply chains.
“In Patrick Zilles, we are gaining a proven expert in the intermodal market,” says Markus Krämer, CEO of HGK Logistics and Intermodal GmbH. “He will help us to further develop our terminal and network structures and tailor our range of services specifically to future market requirements.”
Networking of sites and coordination of trimodal transport
The focus is on expanding digital processes, ensuring seamless integration between sites, and coordinating trimodal transport via inland waterways, rail and road. The aim is to provide integrated container solutions for industry, retail, logistics companies and shipping lines, as well as to strengthen sustainable transport chains in European hinterland transport.
Patrick Zilles has over 20 years’ international experience in intermodal transport, rail freight and logistics. Most recently, he was responsible for DFDS’s global rail and intermodal operations and successfully steered the division towards sustainable profitability. Prior to that, he founded an intermodal operator and led it until its acquisition by DFDS. He has also held senior management positions at companies including Samskip, TX Logistik, Kühne + Nagel and DB Schenker.
“With its locations along the Rhine and its proximity to major economic regions, HGK Logistics and Intermodal is ideally placed for further growth,” says Patrick Zilles. “What I find particularly appealing is combining the strengths of these locations into an integrated, customer-focused network and capitalising on the opportunities offered by the shift of transport to rail and inland waterways.”
In his new role, Zilles will drive forward the further development of the terminal and network structures. By appointing this industry expert, HGK Logistics and Intermodal is further strengthening its position in the growing intermodal market.
