Next Saturday evening (Nov. 25), ‘Westkai’, the head office of the HGK Group, will be lit up orange from 6:00 pm to midnight. This is the first time that HGK has taken part in ‘Orange Days’, which will be held in Cologne between November 21 and November 26, 2023. This campaign is intended as a sign against violence against women.
The campaign refers back to the ‘Orange the World’ campaign of the United Nations and aims for the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). The date of 25 November was selected deliberately: this date has been launched by the UN General Assembly as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
In Cologne, Orange Days was first held with illuminated buildings in 2019. Particularly striking in recent years was, for example, the distinctive lighting of the Ellmühle at Cologne-Deutz.
With the move to its own building, located directly on a busy access road into the city centre, the HGK Group now has a good opportunity for the first time to support the initiative with a clearly visible sign.
‘We’re taking part because there must not be any room for violence against women or girls. Not at work, not in any social settings, not in the family. Not in society, not verbally, not psychologically, not physically. Never and nowhere!’
In Cologne, the campaign is coordinated by the Office for Gender Equality. The website orangedays-koeln.de provides information about the various activities and exhibitions that can be seen in the city in addition to the illuminations.
Also bathed in orange light will be various wells and fountains in the city, e.g. in Media Park, the Botanic Garden, the Protestant Church in Riehl, the main customs office of Cologne, the 4711 House and the Lanxess Arena.
